LaVaughn or “Gran,” as she was called by her family, was born on August 25, 1931 in McComb, Mississippi to Lawrence and Lesie Campell. She married Tyrone Beasley Sr. in 1952 in Alabama. Gran worked numerous jobs from waitress and cook to caregiver. She worked at and ran Mel’s Diner in Giddings for years. LaVaughn and Tyrone raised their children in Giddings before moving to Caldwell.
She moved to Rockdale a year ago to be near her family. LaVaughn spoke her mind and you never had to question where she stood. She enjoyed going to casinos to gamble, playing bingo, smoking her cigarettes, drinking her Dr Pepper or tea with lots of lemon in it, eating chili cheese coneys or chocolate cookies and don’t expect her to share. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for and she will be dearly missed by her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Tyrone Beasley Sr.; father, Lawrence Campbell; mother, Lesie Robinson; and sisters, Bobbie and Betty.
Gran is survived by three sons, two daughters, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and sisters, Ethel and Marguerite.
