Margaret didn't die until 1799, she was the mother of the eight children born to them, including David. Those children include William, Elizabeth, Samuel, Arthur, Jane, Mary, John, and this David. Four of the children of this marriage died in their youths. He had one child during his second marriage to Jane Montgomery Cowan, a daughter, Margaret Lavina Campbell.
