Robert's remains were recovered in 2004 and he was interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Robert served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on C-47A #42-24215, 41st Squadron, 317th Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Elkhart County, Indiana prior to the war.

C-47A #42-24215 took off from Dobodura Airfield on a cargo flight to Hollandia, and crashed into the Sarawaget range durng the war.

Robert, along with the rest of the crew, was first declared "Missing In Action" and noted as unrecoverable by the military.

In 2004 the crash site was located and the remains of the entire crew were recovered.

Robert's status was then changed to "Killed In Action" when his remains were recovered.
