The deaths of Alexis and his wife and several of their young children was very likely due to the prevailing Yellow Fever epidemic of 1853. New Orleans newspapers of the time report the deaths of hundreds of people in the city due to Yellow Fever. A son of the couple, Ursin Cambre, may have been the sole child to survive. He was born 6 Apr 1819 and married in St John the Baptist Church, Edgard, LA, on 12 Jun 1854 to Lezima Denoyer (Desnoyer).
