Arlene Frances Ahrendt, 66, died Friday, Aug. 1, at her home in Cameron.
Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 4, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Oak Hill Cemetery Pavilion.
Mrs. Ahrendt was born Jan. 16, 1942 in Pekin, Ill. to Robert E. and Helen (Kringer) Callender. She attended schools in Washington and East Peoria, Ill. and graduated from East Peoria Community High School.
She loved all types of music, especially Jazz and Doo-Wop from the 1950s and 1960s. She was an accomplished vocalist and performed with a large dance band all over the Midwest in the early 1960s.
She met her husband Don when he was transferred to Illinois and they were married March 6, 1965 in Peoria. They relocated to Austin in 1967. Mrs. Ahrendt worked as secretary/bookkeeper for Leif Johnson's Truck City, and later for the State of Texas before the family moved to Cameron in 1976. After moving to Cameron, she devoted her time to rearing her four children.
She is survived by her husband, Don; her father, Robert Callender of Secor, Ill.; her mother Helen Thomas of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, William Ahrendt and wife Linda of Washington, Ill.; daughters, Kelly Dellerman and husband Louis of Minerva, Stacey Wuthrich of Houston, and Rachel Cole and husband Glenn of Cameron. Other survivors include her sister Elaine Callender of Secor, Ill.; and her brothers Michael Callender of Secor, Ill. and Roger Callender of Bloomington, Ill.
Also surviving are grandsons Nicholas Wuthrich, Gavin Wuthrich, Jeremiah Botts, Patrick Cole, Andrew Cole, Alex Cole, Dustin Wheeler and Logan Dellerman, as well as granddaughters Michelle Botts, Laurie Lopeman, Staley Lilley, and Meghan Dellerman. Additional survivors include five great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, two nieces, several cousins, and a special lifelong friend Judy Glaczenski of Daytona Beach, Fla.
