Ed Callahan Dead

J. E. Callahan died Tuesday morning at his home in San Antonio, after an illness of several months. The remains were brought to Pipe Creek for burial and interment was made in Pipe Creek cemetery yesterday afternoon. It was Mr. Callahan's request made several days before he died that J. M. Hunter, editor of the New Era, conduct his funeral, and in our feeble way we tried to speak words of comfort to the sorrowing family.

A large crowd attended the funeral, quite a number coming from San Antonio, Hondo, and other places, where deceased was well known and highly respected.

James Edward Callahan was born in Coock county, Oregon in 1864, and came to Texas with his parents in 1874, locating in San Saba county. He moved to Bandera county in 1875, and on June 28th, 1886 he was happily married to Miss Annie A. Buck of this county. To this union nine children were born, six of whom are living, being Robert E., John H., and Ben B. Callahan of San Antonio, Mrs. Annie L. Love of Devine, Mrs. Edna McClellan and Mrs. Ruth Land of San Antonio. Five sisters and four brothers also survive, being Mrs. Walter Fox of Lytle, Mrs. Bud Scott of Schattel, Mrs. G. W. Edwards of Animas, New Mexico, Mrs. L. H. Smith and Mrs. T. B. Riggs of Pearsall, J. G. Callahan of Pipe Creek, A. B. Callahan of Carrizo Springs, Oscar Callahan of Menard, and D. D. Callahan of Pearsall. All of the brothers and sisters were present at the funeral except Mrs. Edwards of Animas, New Mexico, who could not reach here in time.

To the grief-stricken widow and sorrowing children the New Era extends condolence and sympathy in the hour of their great sorrow.

Published on the front page of the Bandera New Era, January 14, 1926.

(Obit was copied just as it was printed in the Bandera New Era newspaper with the spelling of the surname as it appeared, "Callahan".)
