He was born June 1, 1982, in Ottumwa to Chalmie and Dixie Renfrew Calhoun, III.
A graduate of Cardinal High School in 2000, he was very involved in school activities. He attended Indian Hills Community College in computer programming. Chalmie enjoyed playing on the Ottumwa Challenger Baseball team, socializing and playing games on his computer and using his Four Wheeler Wheelchair. His greatest joy was spending time visiting with family and friends in person and on the Internet.
Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Chasity Calhoun, of Clive, and Shana Calhoun, of Waltham, Mass.; his grandmother, Mary Renfrew, of Ottumwa; and his aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee an Kate Calhoun, and Leroy Renfrew.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home; with Pastor Tom Shipley officiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 am today at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 pm today. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation or Heartland Human Society, Ottumwa, IA.
