Pfc. Kenneth Caldwell Killed on Iwo Jima
Pfc. Kenneth Carl Caldwell who had been serving in the Southwest Pacific with the Fifth division of marine corps since last November, was killed in action on Iwo Jima island March 4 according to word received yesterday by his wife, Mrs. Mary Helen Caldwell, 110 Sanford avenue.
Prior to his induction into the marines in April 1944, Pfc. Caldwell was employed at the Sally Ann bakery. He attended Columbia public schools, graduating from Hickman High School in 1939.
Surviving in addition to his wife include a daughter, Sheliah Deen, his father, Shellie Caldwell, Route 2, his mother, Mrs. George McAlpin, one sister, Mrs. Tharon Harmon, and one brother, Charles Caldwell, of Columbia.
