Married for 58 years to her husband, Gene, Dixie Birdsall was an interior designer and mother of three children: Donn, Janice, and Melinda. She was the grandmother of 8: Denver, Ryan, Holly, Nicole, Allison, Ben, Ashley, and Brooke. A great-grandmother of 3 at the time of her death.

Dixie grew up in the Detroit, Michigan area. She often said that "Jesus captured her heart when she was 7 years old." That decision to accept Jesus eventually led her entire family to receiving Jesus as their Savior as well.

She married Walt Felmly but the marriage was short-lived as Walt was killed during World War II. She met Eugene Birdsall when both were students at Bob Jones University and they married on August 28, 1948 (the union lasted 58 years). While Gene Birdsall entered Christian education in 1959, Dixie worked at being an interior designer (something she was very good at and enjoyed).

Her greatest pride and joy were her 3 children and 8 grandchildren. When she and Gene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998, they were given a 3-week trip to Europe (they had always wanted to visit)! They had the time of their lives!! Gene passed away in November, 2006.
