Ella Marie ''Sugar'' Cain Alexander, 72,
of Carlisle, Pa., died there Saturday, Aug. 31, 1991, at Thornwald Home.
She was born in Pickton, Texas, and graduated in 1939 from Southern Methodist University in Dallas where she received a bachelor's degree in fine arts. She was the co-founder of Epsilon Lambda chapter of Kappa Alpha Beta sorority at Dickinson College in Carlisle, twice served as president of the Officers Wifes Club of Carlisle Barracks, presented numerous literary papers as a member of the Carlisle Fortnightly Club and organized a quilting club at Carlisle YWCA which donated quilts to worthy institutions. She was an arts and crafts hobbyist and a weekly participant in bridge clubs. She was a volunteer in the Women's Auxiliary during World War II. She had lived in Carlisle since 1957. A daughter, Marie Elizabeth Alexander, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, retired U.S. Army Col. Urey Woodson Alexander; two sons, Urey W. Alexander Jr. of Richardson, Texas, and Buford Cain Alexander of Amsterdam, Netherlands; and two grandchildren. Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carlisle Barracks Memorial Chapel, Carlisle. Burial in the city cemetery of Sulphur Springs, Sulphur Springs, Texas. Visitation after the services. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Marie Alexander Memorial Fund at Rice University, P.O. Box 1892, Houston, Texas 77251.
