Verma "Jean" Belcher, 75, of Patoka (Crackersneck), died on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Patoka, with the Rev. Dave Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Pratt Cemetery in Patoka. Visitation was to be held from 4-8 p.m. this Wednesday at the church. Day Funeral Homes in Patoka was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Pratt Cemetery. Mrs. Belcher was born on Aug. 11, 1935, in Pope Township, the daughter of Delmar and Fern (Orrell) Cain. She married Darwin "Gale" Belcher on Jan. 14, 1954, in Carlyle.

For many years Jean and Gale owned and operated their own business, B&G Bait Shop, where they shared many good times. She enjoyed horses, fishing, reading, going to Bluegrass Festivals, and camping with her grandkids. She lived life to the fullest and will be remembered as a loving wife, mom and granny. She was the backbone of our family, the one with all the answers, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Allen Belcher and his wife Janice Lee of Patoka, and Joe Belcher and his wife Jan of Patoka; daughters, Cheryl and her husband Clyde Barnes of Patoka, and Teresa and her husband Mike Thalman of Patoka; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Kurt Belcher and his wife Jill and sons Garrett and Drew of Patoka, Adam Belcher and his wife Kara and daughters Gwen and and Addyson of Patoka, Michelle Landreth, husband Mark and children Emma, Owen and Aubri of Patoka, Amie Meier, and husband Tanner and children Evan and Ava of Patoka, Chad Barnes of New Baden, Jenny Hassebrock and daughters Riley and Haley of Patoka. Clint Thalman and fiancé Amy Williamson of Patoka, Katie Thalman of Patoka, Nick Belcher of Patoka, and Abby Belcher of Patoka; brothers, Bill and Jenylle Cain of Patoka, Keith and Charlotte Cain of Patoka, and Clayton and Kay Cain of Patoka, Dennis and Cheryl Cain of Patoka; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Wilma Chambers; and grandson, Greg Hassebrock.
