Carolanne Cahill, 70, of Westerleigh, a retired Pioneer bus matron, died Sunday at Staten Island University Hospital in Prince's Bay.

Born Carolanne Checchi in West Brighton, she graduated from Port Richmond High School and moved to Westerleigh in the 1970s.

She was a matron for Pioneer Bus for more than ten years on Staten Island.

She was a parishioner of Holy Family R.C. Church in Westerleigh and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

"Every Sunday for the last twenty-five years, her children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews would congregate at my mom's house for Sunday dinner," said her son, Robert Cahill. "It was the glue that held the family together."

She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and taking trips to Atlantic City.

Surviving are her husband of fifty years, Robert; three sons, Robert, Kirk and Kevin; a daughter, Kelly Dean; four brothers, Edmond, Gino, Dennis, and Glen Checchi; two sisters, Catherine (Cookie) Sabella and Lisa Phelps; and twelve grandchildren.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from the Matthew Funeral Home, Willowbrook, with a Mass at 9:45 a.m. in Holy Family Church.
Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
