Funeral services for Era Mae Caffey, 93, of Gilmer will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Madison Caffey officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Upshur County. Arrangements are by Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mrs. Caffey passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at a Longview hospital.
Mrs. Caffey was born November 3, 1917, in Pittsburg, Texas to Robert Olon and Etta Mae Whatley Patterson. She married James William Caffey on December 31, 1935 in Gilmer, Texas. They spent 54½ year together before his death in May 27, 1990.
Mrs. Caffey was a member of Grace Baptist Church and loved all her church family. She had in earlier years taught children and Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She dearly loved her family and everyone she met. Her hobbies and past-times were spent reading her Bible and Christian books. In time past she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and gardening.
She is survived by sons, Kenneth L. Caffey and wife Robbie, Robert H. Caffey and wife Gwyn; daughters, Judy A. Varley and Jerry M. Varley, Cherry E. Puckett; sister, Bobbie Sue Patterson; 14 - grandchildren, 34 - great-grandchildren, 19 – great-great-grandchildren; all of them precious to her.
Pallbearers will be Jason Hayes, W.C. Darden, Cody Gray, Jody Gray, Wess Childress, and Mark Childress.
