Ruth C. Cable, 98, of Freeport, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Parkview Home.

Ruth was born on January 15, 1915 in Chicago, the daughter of Rev. Howard and Elsie (Kasdorf) Grimme. On June 24, 1933 Ruth married C. Virgil Cable in Reddick, Illinois. Mr. Cable died on April 12, 1994. Ruth was a homemaker. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. She did volunteer work in the F.H.N. Hospital Gift Shop and for the Mothers Hubbard Kiddie Cupboard.

Surviving Ruth are her son, Robert (Barbara) Cable; daughter, Joanne Schamberger, and four grandchildren; Cindy (Greg) Gordon, Todd (Kris) Cable, Wendy (Todd) Barr, and Sandra (Dr. Jason) Barmore. Also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren, Laura and Danielle Gordon, Zachary and Connor Cable, Jacob and Abby Barmore, and Madelyn and Nathan Barr.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Robert D. Schamberger; son-in-law, Gary Schamberger; brother, Howard; and a sister-in-law, Eva.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday January 26, Faith United Methodist Church. Rev. Bruce Janes and Rev. Kenneth Lemmel will officiate.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at the Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Ruth's memory.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of both Parkview Home and F.H.N. Hospice for their compassion, care, and kindness.
