Former Thayne Resident Dies

Word was received recently of the death of one of the early settlers in Star Valley, Sarah Louise Butterworth Byrum. 88 of Ucon, Idaho. Sister Butterworth as she was known by the people of the valley was born July 4, 1871 at Mill Creek, Utah, daughter of John Prodger Wright and Isabell Wardell Wright.
She was married to Isaiah Butterworth Aug 24, 1887 in the Logan LDS Temple. They came to Star Valley in 1900 and settled on a homestead three miles north of Thayne. During that time her husband Isaiah Butterworth served as bishop of the Thayne ward.
Mrs Butterworth served as teacher in the Thayne Sunday School and primary and also served in the Relief Society.
In her passing another noble pioneer has taken her place among those b eloved settlers who with their husbands willingly did whatever duty called them to do to subdue the rugged frontier and make a home for their families. Her sterling character has left its stamp upon all who knew her.
The Butterworths left Star Valley in 1906 and made their home in and around Idaho Falls.
After residing in Idaho Falls for several years, her husband passed away and also one son,. Ebbie Butterworth.
She was married to William Byram April 2, 1922 in Salt Lake City.
At the time of passing she was staying at the home of her daughter, Isabell Davidson in Rexburg Idaho. She died Jan 29, 1960. Funeral services were held in the Ucon LDS Ward Chapel at 1 p.m. Feb 2.
Survivors are her five daughters, Mrs Louise Hebdon of Rigby; Mrs Isabell Davidson, Rexburg; Mrs Naomi Newby Seattle Wash,; Mrs Nora Mumford, Montpelier; Mrs Nellie Marler, Seattle, Wash,; Ralph Butterworth, Ogden.
She had 24 grandchildren 64 great grandchildren and 24 great great grandchildren.
Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
