RUFUS D. BYRUM
Rufus David Byrum, 69, of the 2400 block of Skeetertown Road, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.
Mr. Byrum was born in Gates County, N.C. He was the son of the late Baker and Ethel Dail Byrum and was a retired security guard from Planter's Peanuts. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Southside Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Vann Byrum; three daughters, Joyce Lassiter of Suffolk, Nancy Chappell of Hayes, Va., and Janet Stallings of Hobbsville, N.C.; two sisters, Marybelle Bass of Edenton and Lois Turner of Gatesville; and three grandsons, Jay Stallings, Heath Stallings and Joshua Lassiter.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Middle Swamp Baptist Church, Gates County, by the Rev. Stewart McCarter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, N.C., in charge of arrangements. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
