Fred C. Butt Jr., 84, a native of Washington, D.C., died at his home in Warrenton on April 27 after a long battle with blood cancer. A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C., he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in both the European and Pacific theaters. His lifelong career in the insurance business began with the position of stock clerk for Home Insurance Company of Washington, D.C. He became an agent with The McLaughlin Company, and later founded Washington Insurance Services, Inc., specializing in conservation insurance. Over 40 years ago, he co-founded Camp Hemlock, a summer youth camp in West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick C. Butt Sr., and mother, Julia T. Webb. Mr. Butt was the husband of the former Shirley E. Russell of Takoma Park, Md., for 61 years. Also surviving is a son, Chris, of Warrenton; a daughter, Julie Andrews of Hume; and three grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Moser Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
