Atha Allene Akers, "Our Beloved Mother", age 92, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, at home. She was born January 31, 1910 in Kentucky and married Ellis Earl Akers on October 31, 1927. They moved to Northwest Indiana, first settling in Gary for a short time and them moving to Hobart, where she has lived since the late 1950's. At one time she attended the Hobart Assembly of God Church under then Pastor Frank Fortier and enjoyed doing work to help the
missionaries. Mrs. Akers bowled with leagues at Hobart Lanes & Camelot Lanes for many years. Her most enjoyable past-time was making quilts, but her greatest accomplishment was the love and guidance she gave to her children. God truly blesed our family when he gave us her to be our mother. She will be dearly and sadly missed by all. "Rest in Peace Dear Mother".

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Ellis, a son, Thomas A. Akers, grandsons,David Bradford, Leonard E., Kelvin J. and Keith A., Charles E., Clifford W., and William E. Akers, great-grandson, Clifford W. Akers, Jr, brothers, Lofton and Alton Buttler. She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Billy Akers of Monon,Indiana, Jimmy (Linda) Akers of Portage, Ronnie and Rockie Akers, both of Hobart; four daughters, Earle Dean (James) Moore of Cincinnati, Ohio, Goldie (Bill) Bishop of Valparaiso, Helen Roque of California and Donna (Zack) Smith of Portage; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren,too numerous to name.

Funeral services are Tuesday, February 12, 2002, 1:00
P.M. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Rd., Hobart. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana. Visitation is also on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 219-942-2109.
