(Pawnee Library, book of obits in the Pawnee Republican.)

JOHN LONG BUTLER

John Long Butler was born near Linton, Ind., February 20, 1858, and departed this life October (sic) 18, 1930, at Pawnee City, Nebraska, lacking but two days o being 72 years old.

He was the son of Sam and Nancy Johnson Butler, being the oldest of their four children. At the age of six years, he moved with his parents to a farm west of Pawnee city, later moving to the town of Pawnee City, where he has made his home ever since. On October 23, 1879, he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Neil (sic) at Pawnee City. To this union four children were born: Charles, Zelma, Floyd and Martha; Charles and Martha preceding him in death. Mrs. butler passed away July 8, 1924.

Mr. Butler was a member of the Methodist church of Pawnee City, also a charter member of the "Woodmen of the World," a faithful husband, a kind and loving father and a very devoted grandfather.

For years, Mr. Butler served his city in an official capacity, and in this service was both faithful and efficient. He resigned his office under the present administration on account of ill health his resignation being accepted with the greatest reluctance and because there was no alternative. In commemoration of his splendid service, the officials of this city united in a beautiful floral tribute as a token of their high esteem and appreciation.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter, Mrs. J. K. Waddell of Eaton, Colo., his son, Floyd A. Butler of Pawnee City, his eight grandchildren, Mildred and Ruth Waddell of Eaton, Colo., Nondus and Eleanor Pease of Beatrice, Nebr.; Don Estelle, Vada and Grail Butler of Pawnee City, and his only sister, Mrs. Eva Lyons of Laurel, Mont., besides his many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church of Pawnee City, Thursday, Feb. 20, by the pastor, the Rev. W. Byron Pardun, after which interment was made in the local cemetery. Music was provided by the Methodist Male Quartet, with Miss Ruth Krouch presiding at the piano.
