Eugene Butler, a well known and respected farmer of Richmondville, died early Sunday morning, April 15th. He was born 75 years ago in Green county. Mr. Butler had been in poor health the past year but had managed to be cheerful and fairly active until the last part of February when he was no longer able to conceal his condition. He was taken to the Cooperstown hospital the 9th of March where he submitted to two operations for cancer. He returned to his home in Richmondville Tuesday, April 10th, realizing that his condition was critical. Funeral services were held from the Richmondville Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. G. W. Swart officiating, assisted by Rev. M. C. Skinner, pastor of the Lutheran church there. Interment was in Richmondville cemetery. Surviving Mr. Butler are his widow, Wealtha (Harrington) Butler and a sister, Mrs. John Van Patten of Coxsackie." ["The Cobleskill Index" (Cobleskill, NY), Apr. 19, 1934, Page 2]
