Mr. Butler was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., and was a longtime resident of the Coast. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs and was an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Posey Butler; his parents, Joe and Doris Gresham Butler; and a sister, Mildred Bosarge.
Survivors include a son, Allen Butler of Enterprise, Ala.; two stepdaughters, Karen Schofield of Honduras and Sharon Lacy of Jacksonville, Ark.; two sisters, Katherine Suarez of Ocean Springs and Linda Gonsoulin of Latimer; a brother, James "Curly" Butler of Gautier; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home where friends may call one hour before services. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs.
