A funeral service for Agnes M. Bute was held Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, with Pastor Ruby Kleymann officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Jackson. Agnes passed away at the Good Samaritan Center of Jackson on Nov. 17, 2007.

Grandchildren as casket bearers were David Bute, Rob Mohns, Rich Mohns, Terry Thobe, Jeff Thobe, Mark Thobe and Mike Thobe. Ushers were John Dykstra and Lyle Fischer. Music was provided by Barb Bluem, organist, and Jane Morris, soloist. Osterberg Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.

Agnes Marie (Penwell) Bute was born on April 14, 1919, in Great Falls, Mont., the daughter of Merritt and Emma (Nelson) Penwell. She attended Jackson Public Schools. On Oct. 12, 1940, Agnes married Laverne Bute in Estherville, Iowa.

Agnes was a very active lady, being a den mother for the local Boy Scout troop and also an assistant leader for the local Girl Scouts. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson and active in the church circle, and was a member of the local birthday club. Agnes enjoyed traveling, entertaining, collecting porcelain dolls, and quilting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, as well as baking and cooking.

Agnes is survived by her husband of 67 years, Laverne; her four children, daughter, Janet (Marvin) House of Preston, daughter, Pat Rupp of Windom, daughter Mary (Paul) Mohns of Jackson, and son, Mark Bute of Olivia; grandchildren, Terry Thobe, Peggy Berge, Mark Thobe, Mike Thobe, Jeff Thobe, Brian Rupp, Rich Mohns, Melissa Nyborg, Rob Mohns, Amy Singvongsa, Megan Bute, and David Bute; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Marsha Bute; granddaughter, Jenette Thobe; and grandson, Dennis Thobe.seven months and three days.
