DUNKIRK -- A funeral for Donna Odean (Smith) Bushong, 86, of Dunkirk, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Price Funeral Home, Kenton. Burial will be in Dunkirk Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bushong died at 6:10 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
Odean was born on April 5, 1924 in Dola, Ohio to Carroll L. and Sadie (Farnum) Smith, and they are both deceased. She married Everett F. Bushong on June 23, 1943 in Riverside, California, and he survives in Dunkirk.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sharon (Frank) Stieg of Florida; Kay (Kenny) McAlpine of Dunkirk; and Lynn (Arne) Morris of California; a sister, Shirley (Donald) Reichenbach of Pandora; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death is a daughter, Karen Sue.
Odean had worked as a secretary in the Army Training CTR Post until 1944 when Everett went overseas. She moved back to Lima where she worked as a secretary for the chief metallurgist at Lima Ohio Steel Foundry. After WWII she moved to Citizen Bank & Loan Co. until 1948. She later became employed as a secretary at Hardin Northern School. In 1967, she quit there to become executive secretary to VP of Development at Ohio Northern University, retiring in 1987.
Odean was a 1942 graduate of Dola High School where she was the class salutatorian. She attended Northwestern School of Commerce; was a member of the Walnut Grove Church and had attended the Liberty Harbour Outreach.
Odean enjoyed her family, gardening, camping and bowling. She also enjoyed sewing, macrame and crocheting.
