Daniel Smith Burroughs married Fannie Barnsback in Edwardsville, Madison County, IL, on 2 January 1884. Two older brothers, John Claxton and Benjamin Rudolph settled and remained in Edwardsville. Children of another brother, William McKenney Burroughs, also settled in Edwardsville. John Claxton Burroughs married his cousin, Esther Burroughs. Benjamin Rudolph Burroughs married Mary Judy, granddaughter of the first white settler of Madison County, Samuel Judy. Benjamin Burroughs was an Edwardsville attorney; he died 20 May 1931. Further research is suggested.
By 1900, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Burroughs were living in Audrain County, MO, where Mr. Burroughs' occupation was farming. His wife, Fannie, died 22 February 1937. The couple had no children. On Mr. Burroughs' MO Death Certificate, his parents were identified as John A. Burroughs and Eliza Dent and both were born in Maryland. MO Death Certificates of both Mr. and Mrs. Burroughs list burial in Mexico, MO.
Ambrotype copied to right is from a 2009 Edwardsville estate sale and identified as "Father's brother, Brother of Benj. R. Burroughs." Reasonable speculation suggests it is of Daniel Smith Burroughs or his brother, John Claxton Burroughs. Original is in posssession of Jane Denny.
