Gladys M. Horesowsky, 96, Iowa City, formerly of Lone Tree, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Loren Yoder will officiate the services. Casket bearers are Russ Forbes, Don Hanks, Brad Woodiwiss, Duane Lorack, Doug Koedam, and Jon Ryerson. Honorary casket bearers are Jerry Burr, Don Kout, Lowell Forbes, Dick Elliott, Dennis Nicola, Floyd Hotz and Lloyd Burr. Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home for the United Presbyterian Church or the Friends of the Library.
Mrs. Horesowsky was born February 2, 1909, in Washington County, the daughter of Earl and Cora (Harvey) Burroughs. She married Harry Horesowsky May 18, 1933, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She graduated from Washington High School.
She worked as a long distance telephone operator in Washington and met her future husband, Harry Horesowsky, in 1931.
She and her husband enjoyed living in Kalona for 10 years before moving to Lone Tree in 1943. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Horesowsky Construction. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Lone Tree, where she taught Sunday school and served on many committees. She was also a member of the TTT Society for more than 50 years, Lone Tree Woman's Club and several bridge clubs. She moved to Iowa City in December 1999 to the Walden Place, where she enjoyed being with people, card games, bingo and church services and visits from her family and friends.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Kathy Stevens and husband Rick of Hills and Krista Jarrard of Iowa City; two great-grandchildren, Brian Stevens and wife Heather of Hills and Jennifer Stevens of Coralville; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca Jarrard of Omaha and Melissa Moody of St. Petersburg, Florida; and a step-great-grandson, Tyler Moody of St. Petersburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Barbara Kay in 1965; three sisters, Lucille, Bashie and Aletha; and a brother, Myron 'Pat'.
