Anne Burnside Allison, 80, of St. Joseph, MI, formerly of Maryland, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at her home.

Anne was born September 30, 1931 to Col. Walter M. and Mrs. Mary D. (Barger) Burnside, at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. She was the youngest of their three children. Anne spent her youth moving from Army post to Army post throughout the U.S., The Philippines and Hawaii. Her father was in the armored cavalry and served with distinction in the 9th Armored Division during WW2. Anne attended nursing school at St Francis Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, graduating top of her class in 1953. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Washington, DC and started working at G.W. Hospital in surgery/recovery.

In July, 1954 she married Joseph L Allison. She and Joe had 5 children together and she continued working as a nurse until an injury forced her to give up nursing. She then went into health care administration and obtained her Bachelor's Degree. She retired in 1996 from the State of Maryland where she had worked as a utilization review/case manager. She fulfilled her dreams over the next few years, travelling to Ireland and Scotland. In 2006, she moved to St. Joseph, MI to be with her daughter, Peggy who took care of her.

Anne was predeceased by her father and mother, her brother Walter D Burnside, Jr. and her sister Mary D. Burnside. She is survived by her children, Dr. Laurine T. Charles of Charleston, SC, Michael J. Allison of Crownsville, MD, Walter R. Allison of Lanham, MD, Patrick J. Allison (Theresa) of Annapolis, MD and Margaret (Peggy) Harrington (Fred) of St. Joseph, MI; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; a special adopted daughter, Cindi Flynn and a very special friend and aide, Marilyn McCoy. A Private Service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Lakeland Hospice or the American Lung Association.

Anne's final parting wish was for everyone to keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you have been up to!
