Joseph D. Burns, 62, of West Creek, passed away at home on Friday Aug. 20, 2010.

Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ before moving to West Creek 31 years ago.
He was a Navy Veteran from 1964 to 1972 receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal Color w/Palm) Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 Device, a National Defense Service Medal; and after retiring from the Navy went to work for the Ocean County Utilities Authority as an Industrial Mechanic.
He was a member of the Manahawkin Moose Lodge, attended Calvary Baptist Church; he was a Boy Scout Leader for 8 years, and enjoyed gardening, barbecuing, family get-togethers, and fixing things.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anita Burns; parents, Joseph Francis Burns and Ruth Irene Murphy; brother, Kenneth Burns; a sister, Carolyn James and Foster brother James Judd.
He is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Janie Burns; sons, Jason Donald Burns (Megan) and Thomas Francis Burns (Jordan); brothers, George Burns (Candy), and Neil Burns; sister, Mary Bernardine Lindsey (Tom); stepsons, Scott and Noah Sebastinas, and grandchildren, Addisyn and Austin. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends and a special great nephew, Ryan Buckley.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday Aug. 26, 2010 at 10:45am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087, followed by burial at West Creek Cemetery.
