Alan Joseph "Joe" Burnett, 35, of Olathe, KS, died December 5, 2004, as the result of an auto accident east of Kansas City on I-70. He was born February 6, 1969, in Fort Carson, CO, the son of Thomas G. and Glenda Ann (Skolaut) Burnett. Joe grew up in Manhattan and had been living in Olathe since 1996. Joe graduated from Manhattan High School in 1987 and from Kansas State University in 1993 with a bachelor's in Marketing. He was the systems administrator for Burnett Automotive. His passion was playing the drums. He loved music, especially jazz and had a deep interest in photography. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe. On December 29, 1995, he married Mary Elizabeth Schoning of Manhattan. Mary survives of the home in Olathe. Additional survivors include his parents of Manhattan; one sister, Joanne Edwards and her husband, Chad, of Yuma, AZ; sister-in-law, Kathleen Kramer and her husband, Brad, of Ottawa, KS; brother-in-law, David Schoning and his wife, Jennifer, of Andover, KS; and two nieces and three nephews, Sarah, Samantha and Jack Edwards and Dawson and Cooper Schoning. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan, KS, with Fathers Don Zimmerman and Loren Werth as Celebrants. Private family burial will follow in Sunrise Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the International Association for Jazz Educators c/o Yorgensen-MeloanLondeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.
