Barbara U. (Doud) Burke, 94, of 90 Retreat Avenue, Hartford, died (Monday February 02, 2009).

She was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Miles V. and Agnes (Kelly) Doud and resided in Newington for 20 years before moving to Hartford in 2005.

She was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Newington Senior Center. Barbara was a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Pawtucket, RI and had a long and varied career in nursing. She was an avid bridge player, seamstress, enjoyed gardening, calligraphy, and pressed flowers for enjoyment as well.

Barbara is survived by her nephews George Angell, of Key West, FL, Nicholas Angell, of Milford, William Angell, of Smithfield, RI, her brother-in-law Francis R. Burke, of Newington; her step-grandchildren William Burns, Edward Burns and his wife Rosemary, and Nancy Heagney and her husband James, two step-great-grandchildren, all of Rhode Island, several nieces and nephews and her special friend Sam Jurgins. She was predeceased by her two husbands William Fraser and Joseph M. Burke, her sister Margaret Angell, and her step-daughter Clara Burns.

Barbara's Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington.
Interment will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at Newington Memorial.
