John Calvin Burgin was born September 17 1847 at Albion, Michigan, and when 9 years old his parents moved to Delaware county, Iowa. He joined the army September 1864. Married Josephine Towslee December 31, 1871, in Clayton county. Six children were born to this union, four boys and two girls. Fifteen years ago the family moved to this place. During that time he worked at the cobblers trade. While in the army he contracted the asthma with which he was afflicted until his death. About the first of September it was discovered he had cancer of the stomach and liver which caused his death September 23d [1907], 7 a. m. Rev. M. D. Bush conducted funeral services. Burial in Milford cemetery.
