Kathleen Collinger, 50, who played a role in the formation of the Family Room at the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook, died Thursday in Highland Park Hospital after a battle with lung cancer. After being diagnosed with cancer, Mrs. Collinger, who lived in Highland Park, worked to establish a program where parents and children could come together to better understand the toll the disease takes on the family. The Family Room, which provides education and support for cancer sufferers and their families, was dedicated in April at the Cancer Wellness Center. Mrs. Collinger is survived by her husband, Tom; a son, Zachary; a daughter, Kate Collinger; and two sisters. A memorial service was held Sunday in North Shore Congregation Israel, Glencoe.
