7/13/1864 from company D to company C
Entered service from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, as a Private in Company D of the Fifth Wisconsin Infantry. He served from August 13, 1862 to June 20, 1865 despite wounds and illnesses suffered in various engagements. At Rapphannock Station on Sept. 7,'62 he received a gunshot wound to his right side.
On May 10,'63 at Spottsylvania Court House, he was wounded on the top of his head. Two days later, he was hit on the left arm, just above the elbow, producing paralysis. A little over a month later, on June 22, before Petersburg, he was wounded on the shin of his right leg impeding his walking and the same day, a gunshot wound destroyed his left testicle and a musket blow to his left shoulder lamed his arm. Despite this he transferred to Co. C, Independent Battalion on July 13, 1864 and served till the end of the war. He came home an invalid from his wounds and asthma, which he had contracted in service and survived only 5 years, dying April 19, 1871.
