|Birth: ||Oct. 9, 1818|

|Death: ||Jul. 22, 1881|

Sarah Louise Burchfield was the daughter of Noah Burchfield and Charlotte Gillespie; this family is first found in the 1820 Burke County Census.
Her headstone death date is incorrect, which indicates she died 22 Jul 1852. This misrepresentation is evidenced by her listings in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census Records as well as the birth of her last 2-children Uriah and Clarisa.
LEGEND has it she died on 22 Jul 1881; a date which I lend more credence to.
Others have speculated her death being in 1918 because of an 1890 Oconalufty Township, Swain County US Veterans Schedule with the following name attached to it: Asbary%Sarah A Burns. This record is for Sarah Adaline Burns; who is said & claimed to have been the wife of William Asbury Burns, the son of Uriah and Sarah L Burns. NOTE: Parents of military veterans are not entitled to a pension.
Sarah Louise Burchfield married Uriah Charles Burns sometime during the 1830s. No record has been found for their marriage.
At least 13-known children were born to this union:
1. William Asbury Burns (1839-1862)
2. Noah Hezekiah H Burns (1840-1874)
3. John Clement Burns (1842-1918)
4. Elizabeth Jane (Burns) Seay (1843-1918)
5. Miles Hebron Burns (1845-1857)
6. Samuel Taylor Burns (1849-1919)
7. Charles Harley "Harry" Burns (1847-1874)
8. Amanda (Burns) Cline (1851-1913)
9. Margaret S (Burns) Shuler (1852-1937)
10. Uriah McBride "Mack" Burns (1854-1922)
11. J.H. Burns (1856-1857)
12. Nancy Louise (Burns) Jenkins (1858-1950)
13. Clarisa Arzine "Lillie" (Burns) Wiggins (1861-1959)
LEGEND has it she married Absolum Cline; YET no records have been found to validate this claim, nor are there census records ever showing them in the same home. While her name in the 1870 & 1880 Census does lists her as Sarah Cline, this does not prove she was married to Absolum. In 1870, Absolum is living in the home of his daughter, Elizabeth Adaline (Cline) Kirkland and her husband Benjamin William Kirkland. In 1880, Absolum does not show up in any census. Then in 1882 he marries Clersie Fuller in the Oconalufty Township of Swain County.
Absolum's marriage to his first wife, Rhoda Kirkland in 1831 is recorded in Macon County & so is his marriage to Clersie Fuller in 1882 in Swain County.
Why is there is no record of his marriage to Sarah? It's quite possible this could have been a mere relationship of convenience during hard times and nothing more.
