Irene Bumpas, 88, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996. She was born July 27, 1907 in Gould, Oklahoma to Newton C. Tennison and Margaret Hopper Tennison. She came to Collingsworth County in 1918. She married Guy Bumpas September 25, 1927 in Wellington. They lived on their farm until moving into Wellington in 1973. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Her husband died in 1979 and she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Hewlett, in 1976, and by five brothers and three sisters.

Survivors are one daughter, Jo Ann McKenzie of Roswell, N.M.; three sisters, Bertha Turner of Amarillo, Thelma McEachern of Pasadena, CA and Ina Lou Bawcom of Wellington; a nephew, Ralph Tennison of Wellington, four grandhcildren and seven great grandchildren.
