Darwin W. Buls, 83 of Plainfield and formerly of Tripoli, Iowa beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017 at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.

Darwin Walter Buls was born on October 14, 1933, the son of Leo and Anna (Poppe) Buls in rural Waverly. Darwin was baptized and confirmed at St. John's United Church of Christ, Siegel. He attended country school near Tripoli. Darwin married Dorothy Quade in 1952 and were long-time members of Grace Lutheran Church, Tripoli where Darwin also served on the church council and he is a current member of Horton Baptist Church.

Darwin served in the Iowa National guard, was an ambulance attendant for the Tripoli Ambulance Service, and served the City of Tripoli as a Councilman and a business owner for many years.

Darwin's work career included working as a farm manager for Bermwood in Waverly, he managed the Standard Oil Gas Station in Tripoli and Buls Super Service Gas Station east of Tripoli, worked as a mechanic and chief auto bodyman for Underdahl Chevrolet and Chrysler in West Union, and owned Fred's Body Shop and operated it until his retirement. On June 28, 2003, he was united in marriage to Glenna Mennenga at the Horton Baptist Church.

Darwin was a long-time members of CAM (Classic Antique & Modified) Car Club and he enjoyed refurbishing cars well into his retirement and great enjoyment with his smart cars. He also enjoyed visiting his family and friends, spending his summers in Iowa and winters in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna, two daughters, Diane (Buls) Schnieders, husband, Michael of Kearney, NB and Doris (Buls) Lake, husband, Bernie of Apple Valley, MN; three grandchildren, Emeila (Schnieders) Gioia, husband, Michael of Washingtonville, NY; Joseph Lake of Apple Valley, MN and Thomas Schnieders, fiancee, Susan of Ames, IA; great-grandson, Daniel Gioia; two step sons, Jim (Lori) Mennenga of Wavelry, IA and Dennis Mennenga of Plainfield, IA; two step daughters, Lyneen (Dan) Dunwoody of Granger, IA and Lynda (James) Stanley of Clarksville, IA; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren and brother, Donald Buls of Tripoli.

Darwin was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy (Quade) Buls, his parents, Leo and Anna Buls, and son, David Buls.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 am at Horton Baptist Church in Horton with Pastor Stephen Moore officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Tripoli. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly an also an hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
