William was born in Charlotte, VT. His parents were Stephen Buffum and Hannah [Weed] Sewel.
William married Caroline Thurman on 20 Mar 1828.
He traveled with Caroline and nephew, Carlos Buffum, on the Oregon Trail and met up with the party of Samuel K Barlow & his family in a wagon train planning to find a way over Mt Hood to Oregon City from The Dalles of The Oregon Territory.
It was a difficult trip but they arrived by Christmas in Dec of 1845 in Oregon City.
From there they lived in Yamhill Co and you will find both Caroline and William G buried in the Amity Pioneer Cemetery, Amity, Oregon in the same plot as the Thurman family.
Carlos married Lucy Wallling, daughter of Jerome B. Walling of Yamhill Co, but they are not buried at Amity.
William was a resident of Vt, OH, IL, MO & OR and was a pioneer of the Barlow Road, a farmer, rancher and miner during his lifetime.
His own story of his life's adventures are printed in a publication of the "Oregon Pioneer Association Transactions 1889" pp 2-44.
