GREENVILLE, SC - Mrs. Mildred Foister Buckner, 87, of Greenville, went to be with her Savior on Friday, January 09, 2009, at Oakmont West Nursing Center in Greenville, S.C.
A native of Greenville County, she was known to family and friends as Mertie or Mil. She was the widow of Arnold Manuel Buckner and the daughter of the late Rev. E. B. (Doc) and Alice McCright Foister.
Mrs. Buckner was a member of Daybreak Community Church. She was a retired insurance agent.
She is survived by a daughter, Glenda Buckner Echols, of Greenville; three sisters, Naomi Lister, Dovie Watson, and Evelyn Arms, all of Greenville; two grandchildren, Eric Echols and his wife Robin, and Carla Echols Janosky and her husband Glenn; five great-grandchildren, Holland and Parker Echols, Hunter Keene, and Tommy and Sarah Janosky; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Buckner was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Carl Robert Bob Echols; a sister, Zula Thomas; and six brothers, Clarence, Lucian, Raymond, Jethro, William, and George Foister.
The funeral service will be Sunday, January 11, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with visitation from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. prior. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the 200 wing at the Oakmont West Nursing Center and the caregivers of Hospice of the Upstate for the love and kindness shown over the last 8 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association of South Carolina, Greenville, South Carolina, Greenville Chapter, 301 University Ridge, Greenville, SC 29601.
