Mildred Geanette "Mickey" Cook Buchanan was born to Ernest and Myrtle (Crews) Cook on February 22, 1931, in Amber, Oklahoma. She passed October 5, 2015, in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
Mickey attended school at Amber Public Schools, graduating in May 1949. She also attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. On December 24, 1949, she married David Carl Buchanan in Oklahoma City. Mickey attended Gupton Jones Mortuary College in Dallas, Texas and worked at the funeral home in Fletcher for two years and at Davis Funeral Home in Guthrie for four years. In 1964, she moved to Okeene, Oklahoma and was the administrator-owner of Buchanan Nursing Home in Okeene for twenty-five years until her retirement. Mickey also owned and operated a nursing home in Hennessey, Oklahoma and a clothing store, The Abbey, in Okeene. Her years in retirement were spent living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Weatherford, Texas.
Mickey loved the theatrical arts and was a charter member of the Okeene Playhouse and was involved in every production from 1979 until 1990. She had acting roles in "God's Favorite", "Forty Carats", "Come Blow Your Horn", "Never Too Late", "Arsenic and Old Lace", and "Done To Death". She co-directed "Harvey" and participated in productions with the Watonga Theatre.
Mickey's other passions included competitive ballroom dancing, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Vernon Cook, a sister Bernice Lang, a son Mark Anthony Buchanan, and one grandson Landon Hilburn.
