Brownie Benson, age 96, was born in Garfield, WA, July 16, 1911, to Oliver and Della Browning and passed away December 5, 2007.
After graduating from Garfield HS, she ventured east to Washington, where she met her husband, James W. Benson. She worked for the Post Office Dept in DC and later in Oakland, CA, where she was secretary to the Assistant Postmaster. She excelled in her 13 years of employment with the Santa Cruz School District where she served many roles including High School Facilities Manager. After the death of her husband of 44 years, she moved to Seattle to be closer to family.
Brownie was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother with a remarkable ability to make friends everywhere she went because she was truly interested in other people. She will be remembered for her skill at bridge, love of sports, and lively sense of humor.
She is survived by her son, Jim and his wife, Bobbi and grandchildren, Mark and Laurie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity.
