Thelma Brown Alting, 66, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Pottstown, Pa., died Monday, March 31, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born March 5, 1931, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James and Priscilla Freeman Brown.
She was a 1949 graduate of Bok Vocational High School in Philadelphia. She attended Temple University in Philadelphia, where she majored in home economics.
During the 1960s and 1970s, she worked as a cook at Grows Restaurant in Pottstown, Pa., and as a salad and dessert chef at Brookside Country Club in Pottstown. She was a homemaker in recent years.
She was of the Baha'i faith.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Gene Alting; two daughters, Roberta Alting of Silver Spring, Md., and Priscilla Alting of Pottstown; one son, Jonathan Alting of Boyertown, Pa.; three sisters, Dolores Lyons and Patricia Farlow, both of Philadelphia, and Lorraine Farlow of California; two brothers, James Farlow of California and Michael Farlow of Cape May, N.J.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, James Francis Alting.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery in Berkeley Springs.
