Pfc. Reubean and Edward Brown of England, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brown of Athens Route One were pleasantly surprised when they met unexpectedly, after several months' separation. They enjoyed a 4 day furlough there together; Reubean has been in service 19 months, his brother Edward in service 7 months. The boys write relatives it was the happiest moments of their lives.

Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. George W. Brown, Athens, RFD, that their son, Pvt. Edward L. Brown, has been reported missing in action. They received a telegram May 11, from the acting General as follows:
"The Secretary of War desires me to express his deep regrets that your son, Pvt. Edward L. Brown, has been reported missing in action since April 28, in the European area. If further details or other information are received you will be promptly notified.

Mrs. Victor May, of Athens, Route 1, whose brother, Pvt. Edward L. Brown, has been reported missing in the European theater of war since April 28, recently received the following letter from a friend of Pvt. Brown:
"Dear Mrs. May:
I hope you will forgive me writing to you but I have been thinking so much about Edwards or 'Brownie' as we call him, people back home and how they must wonder about him. When I saw your name on a package that you had sent him, I thought I would write to you and ask you, to kind of tell them how much we over here in Brownies outfit thought of him and how we miss him. I only wish I could tell you how it all happened, but military censorship won't allow it, so I'll just have to wait till I get a chance to drop down in Alabama and talk to them. I guess he was my best friend and we chummed around together quite a bit. He was always so quiet and very seldom said much. But I supposed this is all old to you who have known him so long. I have been waiting to write just a line or two to you folks there for some time about him but I just don't know what to say as I don't want to stir up any more grief over him."
"So therefore I must close and in doing so I want you to know that not only will he never be forgotten by you folks back there but he will always be remembered by some of us here for the great friend and buddie that he was to us. I don't think there is a word that could express a great enough tribute for him."
"So in closing I only hope you will accept my deep sympathy."
