John R. "Bun" Brown, retired Waverly policeman, passed away shortly after noon Monday, March 9th at Our Saviour's Hospital in Jacksonville. Brown, who served as Waverly's policeman for 28 years, had been in ill health for several years.
He was born October 18, 1900 {sic}, the son of John Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Short Brown. He was married to the former Letha Slagle, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jesse R. of Coal City and Robert R. of Pawnee; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Rasmussen of Downey, California; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Nortrup of White Hall and Mrs. Jesse Wheeler of Waverly and twelve grandchildren.
One son, Lawrence, preceded him in death in 1958.
Funeral services were held at the Neece Funeral Home Thursday afternoon with Rev.John Muir officiating.
Burial was in Waverly East Cemetery.
