Naomi Brown was born on April 7, 1923 in Halifax County, NC and departed this life on May 7, 2009 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC. She was one of the six siblings born to the late Rev. Alexander Brown, Sr. and the late Bessie Jenkins Brown. Four of Naomi's siblings preceded her in death: Lina Brown Dixon, Alexander Brown Jr., Herlot Brown and Cleveland Brown.

Naomi grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, NC where she worshipped regularly and was an active member of the Sunday school. After moving to Rocky Mount, she united with Mt. Zion First Baptist Church. Naomi loved the Lord and enjoyed her relationship with her fellow worshippers at Mt. Zion. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and faithful member of the Deaconess Ministry.

After graduating from John Armstrong Chaloner High School in Roanoke Rapids, Naomi earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Shaw University. Naomi also studied at A & T North Carolina State University in Greensboro, NC, Columbia University in New York and Boston University in Massachusetts.

Naomi's professional career began in Tate, GA, but her desire to be closer to her family brought her back to North Carolina. She taught in public schools in Creedmoor, NC for several years. Later, she moved to Rocky Mount, NC where she taught English and Drama in the Rocky Mount Schools. She truly enjoyed her students, co-workers, and the entire Rocky Mount community.

Our beloved Sister Naomi's favorite hobbies were reading, writing and traveling.
