Mr. Donald Preston Brown, Sr., age 86 of Grandview, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at his residence. He was born July 1, 1925 in McCown Valley, Hill County, Texas, son of the late Oliver and Tina (Schoonover) Brown. He grew up in Blum and graduated from Blum High School, then attended Tarleton State University prior to being drafted into the United States Army during World War II. On February 19, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce "Sue" Overton in Whitney. He served as vice president and general manager of the Hillsboro Evening Mirror before moving to Arizona. Then, moved back to Texas and served as president of Texas Midland Telephone Company and regional vice president of C.P. National Telephone Company in Grandview until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, bee-keeping, playing golf and managing the Brown family farm at Blum – plowing in his air-conditioned cab tractor, raising cattle, clearing land and enjoying the family's 17 acre lake and cabin where many hours were spent feeding fish and boating. Don served as past deacon at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro and First Baptist Church in Blum and was a current member of the First Baptist Church in Grandview.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce "Sue" Brown of Grandview; one son, Donald Preston "Chip" Brown, Jr. and wife, Patricia of Grandview; one granddaughter, Lisa Goodman and husband, Shannon of Weatherford; one great-grandson, Conner Paschall of Weatherford; one step great-granddaughter, Kelbi Goodman; one step great-grandson, Kyler Goodman; one sister, Doris Bentley of Cleburne; one niece, Sandi Lovely and husband, Ted of Duluth, Georgia and four great nephews, David and Michael Messer and Drew and Marc Lovely.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 10 at First Baptist Church in Grandview with Pastor Russell Allen and Pastor Stephen Hatfield officiating.

Pallbearers will be family members: Clifford Auten, Darvin Auten, Charles Melvin Caperton, Brian Caperton, Michael Epps, David Overton, Jeff Overton and Steve Overton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 454, Grandview, TX 76050.
