Addison was born in Crawford County, Indiana to George Brown and Sophia Williams. In about 1849, the family moved to Sullivan County, Indiana. Addison was age nineteen when his father died in 1855 and he and the family moved back to Crawford County. Addison wed Elvira Goldman in Crawford County on May 9, 1861 and six months later, on November 12, enlisted as a private in Company H of the 49th Indiana Infantry. He was mustered out three years later, on November 29, 1864, and soon moved to Illinois. There he and Elvira started their family:
1) Charles Nolten on 13 Mar 1867
2) Lory B in 1870

In 1871, Addison moved to Indiana and had:
3) Ora Pere on 8 May 1872
4) George in Jul 1875

In about 1877, Addison moved to Coles County, Illinois and had:
5) John Will on 14 Apr 1878
6) Edward Burton in Nov 1883

Addison was a member of GAR Post # 503 in Trilla, Illinois, until his death on October 17, 1903.
