Charles E. Brown, 78, of Creston, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Charles Eugene Brown, son of Mildred Marie (Malecek) and Carl A. Brown, was born February 2, 1927 in Algona. He graduated from Algona High School in 1944. Charles served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946.

On August 22, 1948, Charles married Ellen Marie Meyer in LuVerne. They lived in the Algona area where he worked on a farm and later was an inspector for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association after training at Iowa State University. In 1951 He continued to farm between Algona and LuVerne areas before moving to Sanborn to become a salesman for Surge Milking Machines from 1958-1965, then later starting into the salvage business for Vander Haag's Salvage in the Sanborn and Spencer areas. Charles then moved to Creston in 1974 to purchase and operate Moore's Auto Parts as Charlie Brown Used Auto and Truck Parts with his sons until he retired in 1992. Charles was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran laymanÂ's League, Iowa Automotive Recyclers Association, serving as president from 1981-1982, Automotive Recyclers Association and the Creston V.F.W.

Charles is survived by his wife Ellen of Creston; six sons: Terry (wife Judy) of Lone Tree, Colo., Randy (wife Darla) of Sanborn, Mike of Aurora, Colo., Dennis (wife Joy) of Shannon City, Doug (wife Mary) of Orient, and Kelly of Creston; a daughter Lynn (husband Garry) Miller of Fontanelle; two brothers: Gerald (wife Donna) of Lewiston, Minn. and Carl James (wife Connie) of Cle Elum, Wash.; two sisters Dolores Brown of Aurora, Colo. and Wilma (husband Craig) Loebig of Spirit Lake; sister-in-law Barbara Baker of Lamar, Colo.; Fourteen grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law and brother-in-law Jack Baker.
