Elizabeth “Bessie” Brown
Funeral services for Elizabeth “Bessie” Brown, 97, Gilmore City, were held Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Schellhammer Funeral Home in Gilmore City. Following the services the body was cremated and the ashes were buried at Oak Hill Cemetery at Estherville. She died Thursday morning, Oct. 24, at the Care Center North in Humboldt.
Survivors include a son, William Lee Brown of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister.
Elizabeth Ann Zeeman, daughter of Gerrit and Tryntje Zeeman, was born April 25, 1888, at Rock Valley and as a small child moved with her family to South Dakota where she was raised and educated. She was united in marriage to Lee F. Brown April 24, 1912, at Estherville. The couple lived in Estherville for a time, moving to Gilmore City in 1932.
She continued to maintain her home in Gilmore City following her husband’s death in1972. Due to heatlh reasons she later entered the Care Center North in Humboldt. (Humboldt Independent, Humboldt, IA, October 31, 1985)
