Leslie Wayne Brown, 73, died last Saturday in Lincoln. Services were Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Davenport, with the Revs. Niel Kloppcnborg and C. J. Willis officiating. Interment with military rites was in the Chester Cemetery.

Brown, son of Harry and Hattie Brown, was born Aug. 17, 1920, at Hastings. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church, Hastings.

He graduated from Hastings Public Schools in 1939.

May 1940, he moved to Longview, Wash. He was united in marriage to Pauline Sherwood Aug. 28, l940. They returned to Nebraska in November of 1940.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. The couple lived in Hastings until 1950 when they moved to Edgar. They moved to Davenport in 1962.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Davenport, the American Legion and a Cub Scout leader and scout master while in Edgar.

Brown was in general contracting until 1978 when he was injured in a fire in Davenport. He was awarded the Silver Medal from the Carnegie Hero Foundation, the Nebraska Funeral Directors Hero Award and a life saving award from the community of Davenport. He was made an admiral in the Nebraska Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Lonnie; brother, Ivan; two sisters, Rhoda Stevens and Ellouise Morris.

Survivors include his two sons, Larry and David, Lincoln; two daughters, Mrs. Larry Muller (Jana), Bellevue, Mrs. Rodney Holtzen (Margie), Davenport; three brothers, Neal, Hastings, Franklin, Longview, Wash., and Don, American Canyon, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. James Cain (Mae), Oroville, Calif., Mrs. Gerald Whitcomb (Genevieve), Davenport, Mrs. Durward Gossette (Marguerite), Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Dan Barons (Claudia), San Mateo, Calif., Mrs. Thurman Pamell (Jane), Harvard; and 10 grandchildren.
