Mrs. Sarah Armstrong, the aged mother of Mrs. Hoover, departed this life Sunday, Nov. 12, after a brief illness. The funeral took place Tuesday at 1:30 o'clock and her remains were interred in the Walnut cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah "Sally" Brown was born 1 FEB 1817 in New York. Sarah married Andrew Armstrong in 1837 at Amity, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Two sons were born in Pennsylvania: James Armstrong 4 AUG 1838 - 4 AUG 1930 and Andrew Jackson Armstrong 7 JUL 1840 - 11 MAY 1922. They moved to Pike TWP., Knox County, Ohio, where six of their children were born: Mary Ann Armstrong Webster 10 MAR 1843 -1 JUL 1915, Eleanor Armstrong Andrew 16 JUL 1844 - 29 MAY 1880, Clara Armstrong 1845, Sarah Jane Armstrong Johnson Myers Brown Conklin 30 AUG 1846 - 26 JUN 1934, John Armstrong 1848, William Armstrong Jul 1850, and Robert Armstrong 9 JUN 1851 - 21 DEC 1870. Born in Johnson County, Iowa: Harriet Alice Armstrong Hoover Vaughn 29 JAN 1854 - 18 AUG 1918; born in Page County, Iowa: Lewis Armstrong 1856, and Joseph Harrison Armstrong 20 APR 1858 - 11 JAN 1950. Andrew and Sarah were divorced 1 JUN 1874 at Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa. Sarah went to live with her daughter Eleanor in Nebraska until her daughter's death in 1880 and then lived with Harriet in Walnut.

Andrew Armstrong was born in Tyrone County, Ireland, March 12, 1812 and departed this life at Clearmont, Mo., March 31, 1905, aged 93 years and 10 days. He came to this country when he was about 16 years old, his parents having died previously. He landed at Toronto, Canada, in 1834. From there he went to New York and thence to Amity, Pennsylvania. There he resided for some time and married Sarah Brown. To this union were born thirteen children, only seven of whom are now living and reside in Iowa. Brother Armstrong moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio, and from there to Iowa. He lived in Iowa City fifteen or sixteen years. Thirty-six years ago he moved to Page County, from which place he moved to Clearmont, Mo., where he lived until his death. Brother Armstrong was married to his second wife, Miranda McMahon, in 1874, who has been his partner and faithful companion of his old age, and who survives him to morn his loss. About forty years ago Brother Armstrong began the religious life, uniting with the Baptist Church, in which he held the office of deacon for some years. About 36 years ago he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and held membership in it until he died. -- Clearmont News.
