Edmond G. Brown, 71, of Monroe died at 2:25 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. He had been ill for five years.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. The Revs. John Jones and John Crank will officiate. Burial will follow. Members of Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will conduct graveside military services. Rupp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born Aug. 4, 1934, in Lexington, N.C., he was the son of James and Elizabeth (Mason) Brown. He married Zora R. Moore May 26, 1956, in Wayne.

Mr. Brown worked for General Motors' Toledo Powertrain plant for 43 years, retiring in 1999.

He served in the Army's 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and photographing nature.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Paul W. (Marie) of Sterling Heights; a daughter, Shari L. Brown of Temperance; a brother, John (Iris) of Kingsport, Tenn., and three sisters, Mary Rimer of Spartanburg, S.C., Martha Fox of Dallas and Helen (Charles) Fritz of Lexington, N.C.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry, and three sisters, Jessie Bass, Tina Weaver and Bernice Brown.
